Manhattan Associates today announced updates to its Transportation Management System (TMS) designed to help supply chain managers run more efficient transportation operations.
According to spokesmen, the update comes at a time when managers face a “capacity constrained” and increasingly regulated environment.
The combination of a driver shortage, decreased timelines and increased regulations during a period of economic expansion and increased volume is stressing transportation industry resources, the company notes in a statement.
Spokesmen add that supply chain managers require the ability to find dependable capacity through a multitude of sources to combat these issues.
Gregg Lanyard, Director, Product Management/Strategy - Transportation and Logistics at Manhattan Associates, also announced that Manhattan has partnered with FreightRover, a leading digital freight marketplace, to give managers the ability to find capacity matches for their specific freight needs.
As a consequence, Manhattan TMS users can now utilize FreightRover's Digital Freight Matching platform to locate and contract alternative carriers, reduce turndown rates, track freight, and expedite payment services.
“We reached out to FreightRover several months ago because we anticipated where this market was heading and wanted to give our customers a solution to the industry's capacity challenge,” said Lanyard in an interview.
He also told SCMR that the deal will help to mitigate risk associated with finding alternative capacity from within the TMS.
“FreightRover provides our customers an easy way to connect with new carriers without compromising service standards.”
Meanwhile, Manhattan said it has has also made “significant improvements” to its TMS Mobile application to improve carrier collaboration, connectivity and visibility.
The mobile app has been updated to include Geofencing functionality that automates and simplifies the shipment tracking process, improves driver safety and increases compliance.
