Most consumers see a box; fresh-food operators see a system. In this episode of Talking Supply Chain, Edible Arrangements’ supply chain manager Jay De Sieno breaks down why packaging is a strategic lever, not an afterthought. For a gift-centric brand, the container is the first touchpoint and a quality cue—so color, layout, and presentation must reinforce identity while safeguarding perishable product through the last mile.

Behind the scenes, that polish is built on process. Edible vets suppliers for the long term, favoring relationship depth over transactions to gain cost stability, faster innovation insights, and tighter quality control. New formats run through multi-round sampling and in-house testing—everything from seal integrity to breakage and transit trials—before they reach stores. That rigor is essential when components move globally and must endure ports, carriers, and handling variability.

Temperature-controlled delivery vans, cooling bags and packs, and strict store procedures keep fruit within spec from assembly to doorstep, with packaging designed for both protection and presentation, De Sieno said.

Seasonality adds complexity, as does limited-edition designs and holiday peaks, but De Sieno noted that planning months in advance allows the brand to ensure the packaging meets the moment.

De Sieno’s says alignment is important, as packaging succeeds when supply chain, innovation, and marketing co-design from the outset, and when franchisees are treated as partners—supported with the right kits, trained procedures, and structured feedback loops (tickets, town halls, and the annual expo) to continuously improve.
