Listen as Rebecca Fannin, Journalist and Author of 4 books, and Rosemary Coates, Executive Director of the Reshoring Institute, discuss the rise of high-tech industries in the American Rust Belt.
Rebecca Fannin is a journalist, CNBC special contributor, and author of 4 books. She has been writing about technology, first in Asia, and now in the heartland of America for many years. Rebecca published her first book, Silicon Dragon, in 2008 about the rise of technology in China. Rebecca has recently published her 4th book, Silicon Heartland, a fascinating tale of how the rustbelt in America has transformed into a technology belt. This is so important for supply chains and manufacturers that are reshoring to America.
In this episode, Rebecca discusses the significant transformation of the heartland of America from a rust belt to a technology belt. In the heartland, technology has been introduced in 3D printing, new machine tools, robotics, electric vehicles, and new ways of making steel. These technologies combined with digital innovation has resulted in the rebirth of the region. Much of this change has been triggered by local university research and investment by the U.S. Government and large businesses such as P&G, Intel, and Google.
