Eric Peltz, the Associate Director of RAND’s National Security Research Division (NSRD) has joined SCMR’s editorial advisory board.
Peltz, who recently contributed his insights to a feature on global sourcing for Logistics Management – a sister publication – will be called upon next year to alert us to emerging industry trends and patterns.
His division at Rand includes the National Defense Research Institute (NDRI), a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) whose sponsors include the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the Unified Combatant Commands, the defense agencies, and the Department of the Navy. NSRD also conducts research for the U.S. intelligence community, U.S. allies, and other federal government departments. In addition, Peltz directs the RAND Supply Chain Policy Center, which conducts research that addresses issues critical to the supply chains that drive the U.S. economy, with a special emphasis on freight transportation.
Before becoming Associate Director of NSRD, he directed the Military Logistics program in the RAND Arroyo Center—the Army’s Federally Funded Research and Development Center for studies and analyses, which conducts research on logistics, supply chain, fleet, and installation management. At RAND, he has led research projects on a broad range of supply chain topics to include performance measurement, overall supply chain design, inventory management, and distribution network design and optimization as well as on fleet management, global deployment capabilities, and capabilities and options for drawing down forces in Iraq.
Prior to joining RAND, he held positions in production and manufacturing engineering management at Chrysler and served in the U.S. Army. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and earned MBA and MSE degrees at the University of Michigan. Eric chairs the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) Research Strategies Committee, serves on the CSCMP Board of Directors, and is a member of the Journal of Business Logistics Editorial Advisory Board. He has been awarded the Army’s Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe, Quartermaster Order of Saint Martin, and the General Brehon B. Somervell Medal of Excellence for multi-functional logistics contributions.
