As we have noted in recent posts, the humanitarian supply chain has been the focus of variety of factions of late, given the urgency of the current pandemic. Here’s the latest news on a unique coalition addressing the crisis.

The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) has joined efforts with The Robonauts, to help the Navajo Nation with the University of Arizona College of Medicine project to send PPE to their healthcare providers who have been hard hit by COVID-19.

Donations are being delivered via air and ground to Window Rock, AZ, Kayenta, AZ, Gallup, NM, White River, AZ, the Tsehoostooi Medical Center in Ft. Defiance, AZ, Chinle Comprehensive Health Center in Chinle, AZ and Tuba City Indian Medical Center in Tuba City, AZ.

The Navajo Nation COVID-19 statistics as of June 2nd are 5,533 positive cases with 252 deaths.

“Our mission at the University of Arizona College of Medicine—Phoenix COVID-19 Student Service Corps is to support Arizona health systems and their patients, workforce, and communities facing the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Nicole Segaline, MD Candidate, University of Arizona College of Medicine. “We have created a collaboration between multiple graduate and undergraduate programs throughout Arizona to bring students together to help during these times.”

Operation Pegasus is an initiative to deliver medical and non-medical supplies to the Navajo Nation. To date they have moved large shipments of PPE through their partnership with Guardian Air Transport, who have donated their crew, aircraft and time to deliver these items.

To date, they have had 8 flights that have delivered over 1,500 lbs. of critical PPE to Navajo Nation, Hopi Nation and Gallup, NM. They have helped move another 5.5 tons of donations via ground travel. All of these donations have been obtained from local and corporate donors or made by members of the CSSC’s COVID-19 Innovation Team.
