The events of the last three years have fundamentally transformed the nature and character of supply chain management. These events have emphasized the importance of managing uncertainty versus risk, leveraging changing opportunities, addressing new challenges and making good decisions in the absence of complete information.
As a result, managers are increasingly recognizing the need for fast decision-making and the dangers and pitfalls of deliberate decision-making. In his NextGen Supply Chain Conference presentation, Michigan State University’s Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management Steven A. Melnyk explores the concept of fast decision-making, the elements that contribute to it and the factors that promote its successful deployment.
Fast Management
This NextGen Supply Chain Conference presentation will explain fast management and its importance; tell why technology alone is not enough to support it; explain the various elements of fast management; and show participants how to start building it within their own organizations. Melnyk will also talk about why mastering this skill can be the difference between being a victim or a victor in today’s marketplace.
Melnyk points out that fast decision-making is part of fast management, but it also includes sensing, assessment, formulations and learning.
Melnyk adds:
“This presentation shows that fast management is not the same as fast decision-making. The failure to be fast can transform a firm from being a victor to a victim.”
Steven will be presenting Wednesday, October 19th.
