This year, the Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) will be staging the “Connie” Awards dinner in conjunction with Intermodal Association of North Amerca’s EXPO in Long Beach on Tuesday, September 23rd.
Robert A. Curry Sr., past president of California Cartage, is to be honored with the award. Dr. Geraldine Knatz, who recently stepped down as executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, is to receive a “Lifetime Achievement” award at the same event.
The Connie Award was established by the CII in 1972 to recognize individuals that have made extraordinary contributions to the evolution of containerized shipping and intermodalism. Named for the container, the Connie Award quickly grew in stature as recognition of achievement and dedication by peers.
The award has gone to an eclectic group — from the heads of railroads and ocean carriers to top government officials, media executives and even to managers within a port authority whose contributions were acknowledged by the industry.
