AdventHealth has moved up two spots from last year to claim the top position in Gartner’s 2024 Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 ranking.
Rounding out the top five for this year are Stanford Health Care, Bon Secours Mercy Health, Corewell Health, and Banner Health. The Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 highlights U.S. health systems that demonstrate strong supply chain leadership.
New entries to this list include Inova, Endeavor Health, St. Luke’s Health System, and Vanderbilt Health, while BayCare Health System and HCA Healthcare rejoin the list after missing out in 2023.
Cleveland Clinic joined the “Masters” category, an elite group of health systems recognized for consistently outstanding performance. Masters status, held by Mayo Clinic and Intermountain Healthcare for seven consecutive years, acknowledges healthcare systems achieving top scores over a ten-year period. “
“In 2024, health system supply chains have been strained and service has been impacted by ongoing disruption, from natural disasters to port closures, especially in recent months,” said Eric O’Daffer, vice president analyst in Gartner’s Supply Chain practice. “Amid a challenging environment, leading health systems have placed a greater emphasis on risk management while continuing to build improved capabilities in their supply chains by prioritizing clinical alignment, increasing organizational collaboration and accelerating the digital supply chain.”
Gartner highlighted three main trends for 2024: clinical alignment, expanding supply chain control, and digital adoption. Health systems focus on clinical alignment by equipping clinicians with tools to reduce unnecessary supply variation, which helps control costs without impacting patient outcomes. Additionally, top systems are expanding their control, addressing the 28% of organizational spending typically not managed by supply chains. This broadening role includes collaboration in pharmaceuticals, IT, and other critical areas.
Gartner uses the following formula to create the rankings: Composite Score (Peer Opinion × 25%) + (Gartner Opinion × 25%) + (Bond Rating × 15%) + (Quality of Patient Care × 20%) + (ESG x 10%) + (Risk Management x 5%).
