In late October, we initiated a new survey of supply management professionals regarding the role of procurement and supply management at their companies. The survey results are continuing to build, and we’ll share some data in the not-to-distant future.
For now: a sneak preview. An early review of the responses-to-date highlighted some interesting concerns. For example, the survey includes a “write-in” topic: “The single most important factor that worries me about ensuring our supply management organization will be successful is… (please provide your response)”
Approximately half of the survey participants provided a response. Three themes have been resonating so far:
• Lack of ongoing commitment from top-level management and buy-in from the rest of the company
• Lack of capacity / resources to do the job properly
• The challenge of how to invest in the future of the department while simultaneously being told to reduce budgets
Weigh in on these, and other important topics, by taking the survey yourself.
