Is it over yet? We’re asking about the recession in this instance. But the question is eerily familiar to one that most of us have heard coming from the back seat of the family car: “Are we there yet?” The answer to that question is easy, No! Now go back to your iPod, DVD or (dare we hope!) book you’re reading. Now as for the recession question, the answer is Now as for the recession question, the answer is not that cut-and-dried. Many economists believe that we’ve turned the corner. They note that business is picking up in some sectors and consumer spending is showing a few welcomed glimmers of hope. But no one has stepped forward to proclaim that as of Date X, the recession will be officially behind us. We probably won’t be hearing any such pronouncement any time soon. But the articles in this issue of SCMR make a convincing case as to why supply chain professionals should act as if the recession is over—or at least in its twilight stage.
