A major theme of the 2021 25th Annual Third-Party Logistics Study, which was released today at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) EDGE virtual conference today, focused on how supply chains have a clear focus on reinventing themselves, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This survey was again released and created and supported by Infosys Consulting, Penn State University, and Penske Logistics. And its findings were based on feedback from several hundred usable responses from shippers, or users of 3PL services, and non-users of 3PL services, as well as 3PL sector respondents.

Minneapolis, Minn.-based global logistics services provider and freight forwarder C.H. Robinson said this week that it is making a major investment in innovation, advanced technologies, and talent. The driver for this stems from in-depth customer research, according to the company. The investment comes in the form of $1 billion to be allocated in technology over the next five years, which the company said is twice as much as it previous $1 billion in investment into technology over the last ten years.

The European Shippers’ Council “disapproves” of the mechanism of surcharges that carriers launch to cover the higher rate of lower sulphur fuel. Instead, its’ calling for a dialogue with carriers to find the best mechanism to share the costs.
