Quarterly revenue, at $24.9 billion, increased 21% annually, and adjusted earnings per share, at $2.66, was up 26.1% compared to a year ago, far outpacing Wall Street expectations, at $2.10. Quarterly operating profit was up 26% to $2.87 billion, setting a new company record. And for the full-year 2020, revenue rose 14.2% to $84.6 billion, and operating profit was up 7% to $8.71 billion.

An article in The Wall Street Journal this week explained that freight transportation and logistics bellwether UPS “imposed shipping restrictions” on a few large retailers like Gap Inc., LL Bean, Nike, and a few others should not come as a total surprise. The reason for that, as we all know, is that with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic leading to a major increase in online shopping, parcel networks have been constrained and restricted, in terms of the amount of available capacity they have, like never before. That is as plain as day.

Some of the main takeaways of the report, entitled “Last Touch, Lasting Impact: The 2020-2021 Edition,” which was based on survey results from more than 1,400 e-commerce customers across North America, noted how North American consumers indicated they have increased online shopping by 33% over the last year, with around two-thirds saying the majority of their shopping is handled online, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Findings for the survey were based on feedback from 1,600 United States-based consumers. The wide-ranging survey is the fourth one Convey has released, going back to 2017, and its findings can be viewed, as it was conducted and released over the course of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which Convey said has created a whole new set of challenges for retailers to win customers and also meet seasonal demands amid a global pandemic.
