India's Supply Chain Council
Recently, I discovered the Web site for India’s Supply Chain Council, which you can find here. Not like I didn’t know India had a supply chain council, nor was I shocked to find such an extensive and informative site, but the occasional article like this one here is an interesting perspective. The site doesn’t thumb its nose at the international corporate community, but it doesn’t promote its homeland the way you’d expect your local chamber of commerce to, either. Its writers are not afraid to express the daring opinion that (gasp!) China and India are not the blooming industrial powerhouses the world thinks they are.
While the trend has swayed so far in favor of outsourcing to these countries that the movement at times takes on the appearance of a stampeding herd of animals, the isolated contrarian views found on the site are a good read for those fearing that outsourcing to either country is a little too good to be true. That’s not to say it isn’t worth it to go there, but the pieces I read are a good antidote to the pie-in-the-sky promise that the mainstream business press would have you believe exists in China and India.
