Supplier Risk Management - I
February 12, 2008
Frank Quinn, my blog colleague and editor of Supply Chain Management Review, will be participating in an interesting online seminar in a few weeks taking a look at supplier risk management.
Quinn will be presenting alongside Donovan Favre, who is a professor of operations management, sourcing and supply chain at North Carolina State University; and Jason Busch of the Spend Matters blog.
Supplier risk management is becoming an ever-increasing topic of interest to supply chain and procurement professionals, rising in interest even up to their CFOs and CEOs. The headlines earlier this year that Mattel made - with its little engine that could (contain lead) – and retailers such as Dollar Plus made with their sales of tainted toothpaste - are banner examples of why supplier risk management matters. Beyond the headlines, supplier risk management carries an array of business value and opportunities.
I noted recently that an Aberdeen Research report found that 62% of enterprises indicate they expect supply risk to increase in the next 3 years.
The online seminar titled, “Grab Risk Management by the Horns: Six Ways to Tackle Supply Chain Risk,” promises to cover how to:
- Analyze where performance, quality and risk management intersect
- Execute on risk mitigation strategies
- Tackle certification head on, including for green, diversity and CSR initiatives
- Get top management’s attention to the importance of supplier risk management
- Use technology to identify risks that impact your business
The seminar is being sponsored by Supply Chain Management Review, and Emptoris (www.emptoris.com), the supply and contract management software provider. It will be held on Thursday, February 21st at 1:00 PM Eastern Time and available for replay thereafter. Registration for the seminar is free and available by clicking here.
