February 12, 2008

You should check out this article from Perdue University, "Green" Power to the Supply Chain, if you're still getting your feet wet when it comes to greening up your supply chain. In short, it describes the concept of green supply chain management beyond the "green" buzzwords, offering detailed descriptions of how you can make your supply chain more environmnetally friendly.

Bob Wallace - WIH Resource Group commented:

Being a waste management, recycling and transportation / logistics consulting service provider, we have anaylyzed various "green" technologies and have found that typically "greening" of processes, especially can increase costs. Not trying to be a nyasayer, however the article states that .."results from their study showed that the proposed model improved net profits by 21.1%. In terms of both government and non-government organizations in the U.S." which I strongly disagree with. Those kinds of improved profits are at best hypothetical and tied to unrealistic expectations and outcomes. Our firm definielty supports the concept and expect that continued greening of the supply chain ill continue, however big business and "Corporate America" will continue to be drive by profits, earnings and shareholder interest which is typical counter to becoming totally green.
