As noted in the annual Salary Survey published in the current edition of Logistics Management, education remains a key differentiater in determining future earnings.

Supply chain management (SCM) researchers at Software Advice support that conclusion, and have have recently published a report ranking the top 15 undergraduate and graduate SCM programs in the United States based on their technology offerings.

“The demand for supply chain professionals across all industry verticals has obviously lead to competitive salaries, and the field is proving to be a lucrative and secure choice for students entering the broader business world,” says Forrest Burnson, a market researcher Software Advice.

He notes that top students at the premiere supply chain management programs can easily command starting salaries that exceed $75,000.

“That’s not bad for a gig straight out of college,” he adds.”The median salary for all recent graduates of SCM programs hovers around $50,000, which isn’t bad at all for students in the middle of the pack, either. What’s striking to me is that despite the abundant opportunities in supply chain management—not to mention the relatively strong job security—many business schools have been slow to expand and strengthen their SCM offerings.”

Still, says Burnson, students who realize early on that SCM is the career path they want to take can expect one of the best returns on their educational investment compared to their peers in “more general business administration/management programs.”
