At the end of each calendar year, I take time to reflect on the year that is drawing to a close, and to give back to the communities where we have been doing business.
This is a practice that we began shortly after the founding of Greybeard Advisors in 2004. Initially, it was fairly informal and unstructured in how we approached the selection of charitable beneficiaries. The early recipients of our year-end donations were undoubtedly surprised by the unanticipated checks.
In the last six years we have put a little more structure into our give-back commitment. On our corporate website, under the “Social Responsibility” section of the “About Us” tab, http://www.greybeardadvisors.com/about-us
you will find information on our efforts, including this particular statement:
“But then we go a step further: we make charitable donations in our clients’ communities…”
What exactly does that mean? In practice, we donate an amount equal to at least 1% of total client engagement billings directly to a charitable organization in the client’s community. Sometimes the client has a particular charity of special significance to its employees. If not, we typically donate to the client’s local United Way. The client’s community charities are still often pleasantly surprised to receive checks from an advisory firm headquartered in Pittsburgh.
We are pleased to support our clients and their communities in this manner.
