UT’s Haslam College of Business will host the second annual Deloitte Supply Chain Challenge, an event testing the business skills of MBA students, Feb. 19-20. Teams of four students from eight of the nation’s top supply chain MBA programs will meet in Knoxville at the Haslam Business Building to compete in the case competition judged by Deloitte’s top executives.

UT will compete against MBA teams from Carnegie Mellon, Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan State, Arizona State, BYU and Georgia Tech. Last year, UT students placed second in the challenge after Carnegie Mellon.

Each team is presented with a mock company facing several challenges at noon on Thursday. Throughout the afternoon and evening additional issues are introduced, and the teams must develop a strategy to address these issues and maximize company profitability by Friday morning. They then present their findings and Deloitte executives determine the strongest action plan.

Students benefit not only from applying their education to real-world scenarios, but also from questioning professionals currently working in the field. They learn from each team’s approach to the case, and make decisions in real time, as they will upon graduation.

The winner will be announced at 2:30 p.m. and following the award ceremony, faculty from each school, along with Deloitte partners, will hold a roundtable to discuss trends in MBA curriculum.
