RFID smart labels will reward patience

There has been plenty of industry talk about lower-than-predicted progress on RFID adoption, but a new report from ABI Research suggests that major vendors such as Motorola and Intermec may be shifting their priorities away from the compliance mandate-based commodity tag market. Instead, these players have adjusted their near-term strategies to focus on specialty tag form factors and non-retail supply chain compliance applications. ABI insists that the market for passive RFID technology will ultimately reward those to have patience.
In another ABI report, "The RFID Passive Label Market: An Examination of Costs Assembly Methods and Future Innovation," the research firm shows how costs are being driven out of the commodity-like passive labels, which offers further promise for wide passive RFID applications.
