Aberdeen: Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Also Benefit from PLM
Supply Chain Management Review staff -- Supply Chain Management Review, 3/2/2007
Companies don’t have to be among the Fortune 500 to benefit from product lifecycle management (PLM), according to a report from analyst firm, the Aberdeen Group.
Aberdeen’s PLM for Small to Medium-Sized Manufacturers Benchmark Report has many recommendations for those small and medium-sized enterprises that are interested in improving product innovation, product development, and engineering processes. These include:
1) Educate yourself about the implications of PLM for supply chain partners.
2) Choose PLM solutions that provide templates to common business processes and best practices.
3) Include organizational, process, and performance measurement considerations in your PLM strategy.
4) Select solutions that are designed for your industry.
The report also argues that leading companies create a separate organization focusing on the product development process. This organization will coordinate product management across departments and measure and monitor product launch success.
