RFID Council’s first meeting to showcase alternative uses

The research and analysis firm Manufacturing Insights has launched the RFID Executive Council to bring retailers and their suppliers together to share effective practices and network on RFID-related trends and topics. The council is scheduled to host its inaugural meeting on Sept. 28 at the Westin Hotel in Waltham, Mass.
The meeting will feature a showcase of alternative RFID technology being implemented by council participants Best Buy and Sears. The technology involves item-level tagging. "The retailers involved in this alternative RFID effort are not interested in a mandate," says Pete Abell of Manufacturing Insights. "Instead, they want their suppliers to invest in the necessary infrastructure because it represents a compelling return for both parties.
