RFID combats drug counterfeiting in pharma

Staff -- Supply Chain Management Review, 3/26/2008

Pharmaceutical will have little choice but to embrace technologies such as RFID and PKI (public key infrastructure) to “insure themselves against colossal revenue losses,” says a recent report from ARC Advisory Group. The ARC reports notes RFID and PKI technologies prevent proliferation of spurious drugs. PKI technologies used for authentication at both the manufacturing and dispensing ends will help ensure genuine product proof against counterfeit efforts. RFID technology used along the supply chain in labeling, packaging and boxing with a digital signature will further fight counterfeiting.
